Lost or Damaged Green Card
If your Green Card has been lost, stolen, or damaged, it is important to take immediate action to prevent any potential identity theft or unauthorized use of your card. Here are the steps to follow:
Report the loss or theft to the authorities
If your Green Card has been lost or stolen, report it to your local law enforcement agency as soon as possible. Obtain a copy of the police report or a written statement describing the circumstances of the loss or theft.
If your Green Card has been lost, stolen, or damaged, you must file Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card, with USCIS to request a replacement card. You can file the form online or by mail.
Gather supporting documentation
You will need to provide supporting documentation to USCIS, such as a copy of your police report or written statement, your passport, and any other identification documents.
There is a fee to file Form I-90, which can be paid online or by mail. The fee is subject to change, so be sure to check the USCIS website for the current fee.
After submitting Form I-90, you will receive a notice to attend a biometrics appointment at a USCIS Application Support Center. At the appointment, your fingerprints and photo will be taken for a new Green Card.
Once your application is approved and processed, USCIS will mail your new Green Card to the address you provided on your application.
Remember to keep your Green Card safe and secure, and to report any loss or theft to the authorities and USCIS as soon as possible.
